LNSC Big Night Out a Big Success

October 15, 2009

Written by James Lee

On Wednesday 14th October, Lalor North held it's first Big Night Out, a musical ensemble of performances from Findon Primary, Lalor North Primary, Epping Primary , Mill Park Heights Primary, and Lalor North itself. Hosted by Piero D'Elia and Talia Atar, the night was a big success. Stellar performances by all the choirs and bands, one band featuring kung-fu dancing, another performing multicultural songs; even LNSC staff members performed a song. LNSC's school band Vevela then performed their hit songs "Beat it" and "Hot and Cold". Afterwards a raffle was drawn, the winners receiving a electric guitar and a Bunnings voucher. The night ended with a finale performance by all the singer and performers together, before the audience were invited to coffee, tea and scones made by the year 10 Food Tech and Advance classes.

Well done to everyone who was involved in running this wonderful event! Special thanks to the Primary Schools who also took part.

~~~~~
Last term forty-three Year 9 students and a group of enthusiastic teachers attended a three day camp in the City of Melbourne. The purpose of the camp was to engage in a variety of fun activities and at the same time familiarise oneself with the local transport system and popular city surrounds.
The group departed at 9am and headed for the Melbourne Discovery Centre which would become home for the coming three days. After dropping off luggage and being allocated rooms, the fun began. The days were jam packed full of activity sessions each morning, afternoon and evening.
The camp commenced with a morning at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre taking part in a variety of water activities with the wave pool and didving boards being a huge hit with all students. Tram travel took us back to the Southern Cross area where we had lunch and then enjoyed a leisurely stroll to Docklands. There we took part in some adventure packed ice-skating with several students displaying their outstanding skills. Others however strugged to stay on their feet and left the Wonderland Ice Park with very wet back sides. More tram travel took us back to tht Melbourne Discovery Centre where we prepared for dinner and dolled up to go to the movies at Melbourne Central in the evening. A late night was had by all as the excitement of being away from home kept teachers up til the wee hours of the morning.
Up early for a group breakfast and then off to Hard Rock for some indoor rock-climbing. Again some amazing climbing skills were displayed by many students. After a tiring two hour session of climbing we travelled by tram to Crown Casino. There we eagerly participated in two hours of unlimited games at Galactic Circus and had a relaxing lunch. Some time was spent relaxing in the sun by the Yarra before heading back to our base to prepare for dinner. We walked to Lygon Stret and ate at a cosy Italian restuarant eating unlimited pizza and finishing up with gelati. We spent the evening watching a movie at the Discovery Centre and eating hideous amounts of sweet treats. Despite the late night previously students did their best to keep the teachers up until well after midnight again.
Very weary and with lots of overtired and grumpy students we made our way across the road for a hot cooked breakfast at Muleta's. Breakfast was a quiet affair as the lack of sleep and the busy program was taking it's toll on the students. We ventured off to the QV centre for a game of ten pin bowling and some casual billiards. With 30 minutes to spare before lunch we browsed through the shops at the QV shopping centre before making our way to an Indonesian cafe for lunch for a new cultural experience. IT was time to pack our bags and clean our rooms. We departed for Lalor North Secondary College content that we had chosen to take part in this busy fun filled camp experience.
Thank you to all the students and the staff for this very memorable camp experience. It will no doubt be a highlight of the 2009 school year.
Teachers in attendance were Ms Gray, Ms Gannon, Ms Shaw, Ms Howlett, Mr Golding and Mr Seiler.
Year 7 Swimming Program
October 13, 2009
Written by Kim Grey
Year 7B students took part in the compulsory Water Safety Program at the Mill Park YMCA.
Students developed skills throughout the course of the term in basic water safety, stroke technique, survival in the water and overall water confidence. It was pleasing to see students, who were initially afraid of the water, develop into confident swimmers by the end of the term.
I was extremely proud of their commitment and determination. A very successful term of swimming for 7B. Well done.
