Student Leadership 2009
|
April 30, 2009

Written by Christine Nastos - School Captain
Hi everyone! My name is Christine Nastos. I am proud to represent you as leader of the Lalor North Secondary College student views.
The leadership team and I hope to make many improvements at the school this year. Most importantly our role is to represent all students. Therefore, if you have any ideas or issues concerning the school please feel free to approach a member of the leadership team. We can then put forth your views to the School Council.
I would like to remind everyone of our school vision, Inspire, Believe, Achieve. Inspiration can come from many different sources. Students may be inspired by their teachers, fellow students, parents or even an interest in one of their subjects. With inspiration, students are more interested and motivated at school. And a student who is inspired helps to inspire other students around them.
Successful students believe in themselves. They believe that if they work hard they can achieve their goals. They also believe in their school's ability to teach them. Without a belief in yourself and your school, it's impossible to achieve.
At Lalor North Secondary College we students can achieve our goals and set ourselves up for success in our future. We simply need to inspire each other, believe in ourselves and our school, and work hard to achieve our goals.
Thank you for your support. I look forward to hearing your views in the near future. Good luck for Term 2!

Year 9 Students Visit the Aquarium
|
April 30, 2009

|
Written by Elena Petropulos, 9B
On Monday, 30th April, 9A and 9B went on an excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium. The teachers that came with us were Mr Golding, Miss Gannon, and Mr Adams.
The first thing that we saw was the new penguins' enclosure. There were two different breeds of penguins. They can live up to 20-25 years. It was fascinating to see penguins in real life. Then we headed towards the coral window.
We saw the sharks and other fish being fed. The stingrays kept eating the fish out of the divers' hands. It was really good to see the fish being fed; we all had a great time. After all that, we went and got our bags and walked to Crown and ate lunch. Then we walked back towards Flinders Street Station and saw a busker and we stopped there to sing with him for a few minutes. All of us kept giving him money.
All up we had a fantastic day, and would like to thank Miss Radford and all the other teachers involved. We enjoyed our day out, so thank you very much. It was great!

NAPLAN 2009
|
April 24, 2009

Written by Ken Seiler, Middle Years Coordinator
NAPLAN 2009 (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy)
In 2008, the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) commenced in Australian schools. The program continues in 2009, with all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 being assessed using common national tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy.
NAPLAN is conducted in the school and administered by class teachers. The tests are marked by independent markers.
The tests cover aspects of Literacy (Reading, Writing, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling) and Numeracy. Questions are multiple choice or require a short written response. The Writing task requires students to write a narrative or a story.
You can find sample questions and a sample writing task on the NAPLAN website: www.naplan.edu.au
Teachers will prepare students for the tests and will provide support and encouragement before and during the test period.
On the day of a test, please ensure your child has had a good breakfast and is on time for school.
The tests are scheduled for the mornings of Tuesday, 12 May, Wednesday, 13 May and Thursday, 14 May. All schools across Australia complete the tests on these days.
You will receive a report on your child's performance later in the year. The same report format is used for every student in Australia. Your child's results are strictly confidential.
