Year 11 & 12 Sport & Rec Fishing Charter - King Fishing charters.
|
July 15, 2009
|
|
Written by Miss Gannon
On Friday 19th June the year 11 and 12 Sport and Recreation class went on a fishing charter. The students were up bright and early ready to head down to the Mornington Peninsula to catch anything that came there way!
As it was a perfect day out on the bay, no wind and the sun shining, everyone had that feeling of a little nibble at the end of there line. Everyone caught lots of fish although some got off to a flying start and others took a little longer to hook their first!
After our lunch we got straight back into fishing and moved around to different parts of the bay, we were fishing for flat head, whiting, rock cod and many more species of fish.
This was a great experience for all and was a very enjoyable day and I’m sure the fish that was taken home for dinner would have been just as enjoyable!
Well done on a fantastic excursion.

Welcome to Term 3
|
July 13, 2009
|
Welcome back to the start of Term 3 - We hope everyone had a good holiday and are well prepared for the term ahead.
A few things that happened near the end of term 2:
- Year 10 Work Experience: In the last two weeks of Term 2, all students in Year 10 took part in work experience in several different areas and industries; from working at a local Coles supermarket to a multinational software development company in the city. Results have been positive, with many students enthusiastic and engaged, helping some with their career choices and developing skills they could use later in life. Some students work experience has led into part time/casual employment with the organisation itself.
-Year 12 Formal: The Year 12 formal was held at Oakville Receptions in Preston. Students arrived dressed in modern fashionable attire in limosines or their own cars. The night was a success, with a 3 course dinner, speeches and dancing as well as photo taking. More info shortly.
-Year 11 Australian Business Week: In the last week of term 2, The Year 11's had their Australian Business Week event, which involved groups of students working together to produce a sports product. They were to analyse figures for production, develop a product, advertising and presentation. The students had a good time getting involved in this event with fantastic results.
-Ashton Music Competition: LNSC band Vevela came 3rd in this competition out fo 50 entries, scoring $1250 for the school. Congratulations to Vevela and those who voted for them. If it weren't for the school community spirit of voting, we would not have won anything! Let's keep trying and hope that next year we will win!

Very good chance to win Ashton Music Competition
|
June 16, 2009
|
Voting has ended, and after 1 week of being 2nd and 5 weeks of being 1st, we have ended up 2nd (only due to a late surge of votes for other schools to their advantage while we had a day off school ;)). Well done LNSC for your dedicated voting - without you we wouldn't now be in the running to win $6000 and have Jessica Mauboy play at our school.
Sony Music now get to listen to the top 5 bands and pick out a winner. The winner will be announced shortly.
The top 5 bands are:
1. ST.MARYS MAITLAND (MY HEARTFELT PROMISE)
2. LALOR NORTH SECONDARY SCHOOL
3. MARIAN CATHOLIC COLLEGE
4. PORT LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL
5. WOODFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL
"I would like to take this opportunity to than all staff and students for their support for the school’s band Vevela which I entered into the Ashton Music School’s Band competition. The response was fantastic and satisfying to see people that are not directly involved with the school support the band. We are currently in 2nd position with regards to votes and now it’s up to Sony Music to make the selection of Australia’s Top School Band.
Regardless of what the result will be, I am very proud and delighted with the band and with results achieved. Once again a very big thanks to all for the tremendous support."

Year 12 Psychology Mind and Body Excursion
|
June 16, 2009
|
|
Written by Carla, Year 12
When choosing your year 12 subjects I highly recommend the one where you see brains in a jar and get to test your friends on lie detectors.
These days they call it Psychology.
On Thursday the 21st of May, Year 12 Psychology had the privilege of visiting the Melbourne Museums human brain exhibition.
Accompanied by our very intelligent and enthusiastic teachers, Ms Stone and Ms Douglas, we began the day with an interesting and very helpful speech from a tour guide who told us a few things about visual perspective. That was then followed by an interesting tour through the human mind exhibition of the museum where we were exposed to a few brains in jars, walked through a real life Ames room, and we're shown why we think what we think, but the best was yet to come. We then went to a room where we had the chance to test our friends on a real poly graph, also known as a "lie detector". Of cause, I was the victim! I was strapped onto an electrode on my finger which measured my pulse and heart rate. They then asked me the control and relevant questions, which turned out quite embarrassing because I forgot that lying wouldn't work this time!
In summary, this excursion was very memorable and gave us all the chance to see, first hand, everything we've learnt in semester one of year 12 Psychology.
On behalf of the year 12 Psychology class of 2009, I’d like to say a big thank you to the Melbourne Museum and to our wonderful teachers Ms Stone and Ms Douglas!
