Alyshah Ladhu wins website competition

July 20, 2009

Written by Mr Lee

Congratulations to Alyshah Ladhu, Year 11, who won the best design for the LNSC website banner on the top right of the website. She has received a Gold Parker Pen valued at over $50, generously donated by our School Council President.

Thanks to all who submitted entries to this competition. Unfortunetly there were not enough entries to award runners up with prizes as planned.

If any student would like to have their work "immortalised" on the school website by designing a banner as above, please see Mr. Lee. Details are attached below.

Australian Business Week

July 16, 2009

Written by Tony Power

Once again, Year 11 students from our college participated in Australian Business Week during the last week of Semester 1. This program has become a highlight of our school’s innovative approach to challenging and engaging students on their journey through school in preparation for life beyond the classroom.
Over the week, students:
• Form a company team of ten participants, each with an assigned role in the running of a Manufacturing (sporting goods) company
• Review ABW student manual a comprehensive manual covering the key business areas
• Run a Computer Simulation Making up to 54 decisions each quarter, about price, product, target market, staffing, training, raw materials, production process, financing, dividends and share price
• Develop a marketing strategy for a new sporting goods product
• Make a Prototype of the new sporting goods product
• Mount a trade display complete with promotional material
• Produce a 30 second video commercial featuring the new product
• Prepare a written company report explaining decisions made, the outcomes and the impact on their company’s performance
• Make an oral presentation of the company report to an audience of business people, teachers, students and parents

During the first two days of the program, student groups were supported by a business mentor. The volunteer mentors, themselves successful business people from our local community, provided encouragement and support to their groups which enabled them to grasp an understanding of their tasks and roles which motivated all groups to complete all facets of the program in a dynamic, competitive yet friendly way.

The week culminated on Friday 26th June when all Year 11s, dressed in business attire, celebrated their achievements by setting up their trade displays in the gymnasium, presented their written company reports for assessment by a panel of teachers and made their oral presentations in the library. After a barbeque lunch all groups gathered in the library where their video commercials were shown and enjoyed by all.

Section winners for 2009 were:

Best Computer Simulation Group 3 - All Star Products
Best written report Group 5 - Pulse
Best oral report Group 4 - Freestyle
Best trade display Group 9 - Sportee
Best video commercial Group 6 – Precision Sports
Best team work Group 2 – Legendary Gloves

Finally, the grand champion team for 2009 was Group 9, Sportee, who were also winners of the trade display while being strong performers in all other categories. Congratulations to members of the winning team and to all students for their wonderful efforts over the duration of business week.

July 16, 2009

Written by Maggie Bevanda

Hello, my name is Maggie Bevanda.

I am your new multicultural aide for the remainder of the year. I have worked with children, parents and staff in various capacities. I am married with one daughter and I have a husband who is a teacher. I am from an Arabic speaking background and I enjoy working with everyone but particulary Arabic speaking, Middle-Eastern families. I love travelling and have seen most of the world. I love things Middle-Eastern from the culture to the food. I am available every Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon. It would be my pleasure to discuss any matters that facilitate your child's learnin at LNSC or just to have a chat. I hope my skills and knowledge may be of some use to the community of Lalor North Secondary College.

On Tuesday the 23rd June the Year 7 Netball team went out to Whittlesea Secondary College to participate in the Orval Netball Competition.

The 1st match was against Whittlesea. Dila and Elena showed greate speed, whilst Olivia and Laura steadily held the team together. Unfortunetlt the girls lost this match.

The next game was against our neighbours in Epping. What great shooting by Kelsy and Olivia. Thanks to Tina, Salina and Letofumaua for the fierce defending. Unfortunetly we didnt win 5-2.

The last game was against Epping B team. What great sportsmanship by all the players! A fun fantastic game was played by the team. And yes we won 5-0.

Best and fairest goes to Dila. Special thanks to coach Ms Howlett and Bianca Cesario.
