'What makes a great teacher?' film competition

September 4, 2009

Written by James Lee

In Australia, Friday 30th October is WORLD TEACHERS' DAY, the annual celebration of teachers and their work. To help promote the day, the Victorian Institute of Teaching is inviting your students to make a three minute film exploring the question:

'WHAT MAKES A GREAT TEACHER?'

A fantastic prize is on offer to each winning entry in the 7-12 categories – a set of 10 iPod touch units for classroom use. Gift vouchers to the value of $100 will be awarded to each student (up to 4) in the winning categories. Plus, the creators of the top 10 short films will have the thrill of seeing their work displayed on the Institute Website.

Open to all Victorian primary, secondary and P-12 schools, the competition is designed to be a classroom-based, school-supervised activity, with entries submitted by teachers on behalf of their students.

The decision to submit an entry rests entirely with the teacher having regard to classroom and curriculum priorities.

Closing date is Friday 16th October. Further details including your entry form are available from the home page of the Institute website at www.vit.vic.edu.au

A sample short film to spark students’ creativity will be online before the end of term. In the meantime if you have any questions please feel free to contact the institute on 1300 888 067.
