Humanities has three components: History, Geography and Economy and Society.
History
In Year 9, the focus will be on Australian History including: the early years of British settlement from 1788; conflict between the Aborigines and the early settlers; the Gold Rush and Eureka; Federation of Australia; Australia’s involvement in World War 1.
In year 10, students study:
-Russian Revolution and the growth of Communism
-The rise of Hitler and Nazism and the final ‘showdown’ between Germany and the allies in WWII.
Study of this subject would benefit students wishing to attempt VCE Modern History and History of Revolutions.
Geography
Students will study developing countries and the impact of global warming on the environment.
Economy and Society
Students will study Australia’s political system incorporating the functions of parliament and government and the electoral process; active citizenship incorporating the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
